The Necromangocon is another inventive and tasty offering from B. Nektar Meadery. It is a mango and black pepper honey wine that comes in at 6% ABV and like most mead, is gluten free. The folks at B. Nektar seem like they have a lot of fun coming up with their recipes, mead names and descriptions:

Many years ago, a mysterious book was discovered by a group of friends in a Ferndale, MI basement. A translation of its contents revealed the recipe for an ancient beverage using mango juice, honey, and black pepper. What they didn’t realize was that creating the beverage had dire consequences. Stricken by fear after its completion, the friends tried to contain the terrifying forces into this very bottle. Once opened, however, no one can say for sure if it can be conquered. It pours a light golden color with just a slight amount of carbonation. The aroma is pretty mild. Floral notes and a little bit of black pepper comes through.
Upon first sip, I got some light sweetness and mild mango flavor up front. This gave way to tartness and crisp apple cider flavor. It finishes on the dry side with delicate spiciness from the pepper that lingers on the tongue. Its a pretty delicate mead, with no one overpowering flavor. The ingredients mingle nicely together to create a balanced, refreshing libation.
The Necromangocon is a great mead for the fall – it themed perfectly for halloween and the peppery notes pair great with harvest fair. I’d recommend paring it with a butternut squash soup or some fresh gingersnap cookies. The spiciness in the cookie and mead would play off each other very nicely.
