Zombie Killer is a 2011 Mazer Cup International Gold Medal winning cherry cyser from Michigan based B. Nektar Meadery. The label and the mead behind it are in no way traditional. The artwork by Marcus Christy (Marcus Worx) depicts a valiant cherry fending off a zombified berry.
Zombie Killer Cherry Cyser is made with Michigan tart cherry juice, apple cider and star thistle honey. It is sweet but balances nicely with the tart cherries. Be careful…it is extremely addicting and refreshing. Serve cold…Zombies hate the cold!
The label doesn’t lie. At 5.5% ABV, this libation is smooth, well-rounded, and dangerously quaffable. It pours deep orange-pink, very clear with no real head, just subtle, sustained bubbles. Upon pouring, you get a nose of tart apple and cherry with a faint floral/honey aroma. The mouthfeel is light to medium throughout with a soft carbonation. On first taste you get the sweetness from the apples and the honey, which is immediately cut by the tartness from both the cherries and apples. It has more subtle vanilla and It finishes fairly crisp with the taste of honey giving way to a tart cherry flavor that faintly lingers – but not for long. Overall it is a very well balanced mead that is incredibly drinkable. It is a great drink to introduce, and convert non mead drinkers.
