Mead is making big moves these days, with more and more commercial meaderies popping up over the globe. To commemorate the movement in the industry, I am making animated gifs that display products, companies, and people instrumental in the contemporary advancement of mead.

This Mead Movement honors Rabbit’s Foot Meadery. Rabbit’s Foot was founded in 1995 by Michael and Maria Faul. They started exploring mead when Maria returned from a trip to Ireland with a bottle of mead purchased at the airport. They were intrigued by the taste and wanted to explore mead further, but couldn’t find any readily available. Michael decided to start experimenting with brewing his own. After 5 years of brewing in his garage, his skills became quite advanced so he and Maria decided to make a go at commercial production. Six years after they started, in 2001 Michael quit his day job and became a full-time mead-maker. Since then, their Mead has received many awards, including, most recently, a gold and silver in the Braggot category at the 2013 Mazer Cup.
Rabbit’s Foot Meadery is located in Sunnyvale CA. They don’t have a regular tasting room, but enjoy having visitors by appointment. All you need to do is give them a call and they will be happy to set aside some time to share their story and some of their delicious Mead.
Raise a glass to Michael and Maria Faul and Rabbit’s Foot Meadery for their part in the Mead Movement!
